Preview: Global Dance Festival 2017

Colorado’s biggest dance music event of the summer gets a change of scenery to celebrate its 15th anniversary – Global Dance Festival (GDF) moves from Red Rocks Amphitheater to Sports Authority Field this year.

GDF ’17 will take place July 21-22 and will transform the Broncos’ stadium into every raver’s dream. Going for an Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC)-like vibe, Global is changing things up by adding art installations, a silent disco, a shaded arcade (encouraging people to take breaks from the intense Colorado sun), multiple food trucks and various carnival rides. While this year’s event will look different than the Global Dance Festival we’ve all come to know and love, the new setup and feel is sure to wow.

To match the fresh look and location, the GDF 2017 lineup is stacked with talented producers from a plethora of genres. Day one (starting at 3 PM on Friday) features mainstage favorites like Kaskade and Hardwell, while also offering some harder, dubbier sounds from the likes of Ephwurd (Datsik’s side project with Bais Haus) and Funtcase. One of my choices for not to be missed artists on day one comes in duo Louis The Child. With a recent string of hits (check out Love is Alive and Weekend), Louis The Child brings a fresh, unique sound to the current dance music scene.

Day two of GDF 2017 boasts as strong a roster as any top EDM fest in the world. Crowd favorite, Porter Robinson, will be back for his first solo performance in Colorado in a while. Fans can also look forward to the eerie and beautiful sounds of Zhu, paired in stark contrast with the upbeat bounce and synths of 3LAU. Deorro is back as well, promising a big room set full of energy and trap undertones, while Excision B2B Datsik will satisfy any dubstep lover’s needs. Attendees of day two will be wowed by a number of other DJs from a variety of genres including, Lost Kings, Nero, Green Velvet, Grum and Crankdat.

Whatever your subgenre of choice, Global Dance Festival 2017 has something for you. I look forward to seeing the new venue and setup and encourage any dance music lover to get tickets while they can!
