Can You Go Home Again?

I just completed my freshman year at the University of Michigan. It was turbulent, to say the least. Not in the sense that scores of dramatic events kept happening to me, but that my emotions had never gone through such a tumultuous course before. Adjusting was difficult, to say the least. I go to a public university in a state other than my own. A school with 30,000 high-achieving students. Many people came to school with high school friends, extended family members, or roommates they had chosen. My friend groupRead More
It’s practically summertime (technically the calendar says June 21st but we all know the second the thermometer broke 60 it was officially summer), the weather’s heating up, and there’s nothing better than cooling down with a great drink. Now, I don’t know about you guys, but when I think “summer,” the first liquor that comes to mind is rum. Think about it: it’s in pina coladas, daquiris, mojitos, if it’s cold and refreshing, chances are it’s got rum in it. Yep, rum is definitely the go-to summertime liquor. Enter: theRead More
Every summer growing up, I escaped to camp in the woods, where my world transformed into a sky of glitter, aromas of marshmallows, and sun-kissed days of carefree fun. Camp was the one time I could forget about the stresses of “reality;” where I looked forward to waking up at 7AM, where I could belt silly songs and dress in costume every day with a community of others who did the same. Most of all, camp was where I met some of my lifelong friends, because truly, nothing bonds peopleRead More

Top 5 Artists to Watch this Summer

Ahhh summer, the time of year when new music blossoms just as the flowers do. Here are my Top 5 Artists to look out for this summer:   Sia   Sia isn’t exactly an unknown artist. She has written hit songs for artists such as Katy Perry, Rihanna and Beyonce. However, after the success of her featured vocals on hits such as Titanium and Wild Ones it is no surprise that she would attempt mainstream success herself. Recently, Sia released the lead single off her new album “Chandelier” which has alreadyRead More

Why The Beginning of Summer Break Sucks

The last day of school is the day when social media explodes with pictures and articles about graduation. And don’t get me wrong, I’m really happy for those grads and totally not upset over the fact that I changed my concentration middle of my school year and delayed my own graduation. Not. Bitter. At. All. But in all seriousness, while the graduates are now stepping up to bigger and better things, those of us still in school are in a new realm of reality: summer break. Summer break is, overall,Read More

Summertime Sadness

I have spent a majority of the past 8 months begging for summer to greet me with her sunshine and warm weather. I wanted needed shorts and sandals. I laid in bed beneath my down comforter in my fleece footie pajamas with my space heater cranked up wondering when the madness would end, wondering when I would enjoy walking outside again, wondering when it wouldn’t be necessary for me to have a parka accessible at all times. Alas, summer is here! But let’s not forget that every rose has its thorn,Read More
I love to travel, especially in the summer when it feels like all I should be doing is having fun, laying by the pool, and reading. Unfortunately, now that I’ve graduated and my dear mother isn’t paying my bills anymore, a whole lot of travel during the summer isn’t feasible. Yes, of course I’ll go on a couple small weekend trips, but it will be nothing compared to the month I spent in Switzerland two summers ago (although it will be infinitely better than the two months I spent inRead More

What You Should Do if Surrounded by Children

One of the worst feelings in the world is to be surrounded by a bunch of small children. This can happen just about anywhere, anytime. But since school is on its way out for the summer, it is time to watch your back if you are planning to use a public swimming pool. Here’s why:   Kids Love Swimming A human being’s first love affair is with the pool. Kids love this stuff! They are like cats on a scratching post, or cocaine addicts when they see a line. TheyRead More
Kentucky Derby weekend! You know what that means—bets, big hats, and adult beverages. Now, typically Derby weekend is associated with the well-known, bourbon-based Mint Julep, but thanks to celebrity chef Hugh Acheson and Captain Morgan rum, this year there’s another drink in town. It’s called the Mint Mutiny, it features my favorite type of liquor, and it tastes like love and summertime. After mixing a glass up for myself this afternoon, I’d like to assure my friends that there will be plenty of Mutiny coming their way this weekend…and probablyRead More
If you didn’t go to summer camp as a kid then you might not understand that camp is the best thing ever.  As a counselor at a resident camp for three summers, I am here to tell you to stop hunting for a summer job and start hunting for a summer camp!  It’s not the easiest job ever, but it’s definitely one of the most fun. The Good Playing all day. Being in nature and teaching kids about it. Showing kids how to unplug and have fun away from TV,Read More
