How to Create a Home That Matches Your Personality

Our home is our sanctuary, and should therefore look and feel like our safe place. Home is where we spend time with our friends and family, where we relax and distress, and this is something in common for all people worldwide, from Scandinavia to Australia. However, “perfect home“ isn’t the same for everyone nor is it something like the beautiful but cold hotel rooms that have no character to them. Your ideal home is the one that reflects who you are, what you love and do, and what you aspire to. We bring you a few tips on how to create a home that reveals your personality.

A homebody or a social butterfly

The little technicalities in your home will tell a story about you, and you should pay special attention to them when arranging the rooms in your home. So, for example, if you like to spend a lot of time by yourself and if you are an introvert, your home will be in neutral and warm colors, with lots of books you like to read, and snuggly blankets. People in most parts of Scandinavia, where it gets quite cold, spend the majority of wintertime in their homes and thus, opt to have their walls painted in colors that will reflect the light. They also love adorning the space with cozy rugs that bring warmth to the overall ambiance.

On the other hand, if you love being out and about, spending time with your friends, and if in essence, you are an extrovert, you will opt for bright and vibrant colors in your space. Your rooms will be fun and inviting, similar to the homes of many outgoing New Zealanders who love to be near the ocean and in nature. Thus, they often opt for bright walls in their home, such as yellow and green, and then add a touch of coziness with gorgeous colorful rugs, that also resemble nature and make the home feel like a personal oasis. In this case, the décor will be a number of plants, photos from memories created with friends and family, and even souvenirs from field trips.

Living room according to your lifestyle

The living room is generally the part of our home that we spend the most time in. However, in case you travel a lot and spend a lot of time outside of our home, the living room will then be quite minimalistic, with only a modern sofa and a simple coffee table. If you are an aesthete, you may decorate with a few paintings but the furniture will be more to serve the purpose of pleasing aesthetics than for comfort. On the other hand, if you have a big family or if you often entertain friends at your home, you will most likely want a big lounge or corner sofa, one or two comfy armchairs, lots of pillows, and a large TV.

How your furniture is arranged also says a lot about your way of living. If your sofa and armchairs are facing one another, your living room will be suitable for the whole friend group to enjoy it, while having drinks and chatting. However, if all the furniture is facing the TV, this means that you genuinely spend your free time enjoying movies and TV shows. Moreover, depending on where you live, you can have your sofa and chairs directed towards the windows. For example, if you are from a sunny country and spend a lot of time at the beach, you will want everything in your living room to be oriented towards the ocean, as the view is the most important décor for you.

Make your own details that stand out

No matter if you are artsy or not, your home should certainly have a few handmade details. In case you are an artsy person, kind and caring, you will have plenty of vivid paintings of people close to your heart, your pets, or your favorite memories. Those who have talent and time on their hand will not resist embellishing their space with pottery or old furniture that they have revived. Contrary to that, if you have a busy schedule and not a lot of skill for making art, you will have fewer handmade details but there will be a personal touch. Posters of your favorite bands and TV shows, photo collage frames, and mugs from all of the cities you have visited will tell that you are a traveler who loves adventure.

As we can conclude, even the smallest detail in your home can tell so much about you. Thus, your home should be created in order to be unique and beautiful, just as you are.
