Wake Up: Discover Yourself in 2015

Another year, another beer. That’s what I always say, every day in fact.

Don’t look at 2015 as just another year. Keep your eyes open and you may discover new riches that you never thought possible. Lucky for me, I found mine in November.

Joining A Church Band

Growing up, I was never an Atheist but I was hardly a religious boy. My parents never went to church and they never forced me to go, so I usually didn’t. In high school I began going and volunteering but not regularly. And then I went to college in Santa Barbara, so forget it.

Music is my passion. I’ve been playing the guitar and piano since I was 6 years old and recording music since 9 (it didn’t sound good at 9 but some say it still isn’t good at 24). In early November I went onto Bandmix to look for some jam mates. I contacted a few but heard back from nobody. Except for one dude.

The pastor at Passion Life Church in Murrieta, CA is one of the finest human beings on the planet. He works incredibly hard to build his congregation each week and loves people. We met at Starbucks on a Monday, and he didn’t think twice before letting me into the band, inviting me to perform with them that following Sunday.

Standing up on stage, peering into the crowd of worshippers as they hold their hands up and sway is a powerful feeling. I’ve never felt so good about performing. Music is the key to unlock anyone’s emotions, and church is a prime platform.

This experience has helped me to rediscover a sense of faith. I say rediscover because I believe it was always there, I just didn’t see it. But to this end, I have to give my parents a ton of credit. They never pushed me to go to church, and now I’ve found it myself. If I had gone every Sunday from the day of my birth, I would be writing a totally different article right now. Likely, I’d be professing Atheism and dancing naked in the street. Thankfully this isn’t the case, because today it’s too cold outside to be naked.

Church, tennis, and music. Three things I’ve discovered on my own and now the three defining aspects of my life. Every year I appreciate and discover new things that define me. I expect 2015 to be the same. I am feeling faithful and confident heading into this incredible new year.

Discover Your Own Way

I’m not the kind of Christian that pontificates faith as the solution to everyone’s ills. It worked for me, but you have to find what works for you.

My best advice for any of you who are looking for inner peace is to keep your eyes open and try new things. Seems simple, but few people really do this consistently.

Even if you are from LA, you don’t have to act like it. Spend less time on your glamour selfies and more time glamorizing your loved ones. Because your relationship with them is truly the most beautiful part of life.

Happy New Years everyone!
