Late December in Colorado is always a gamble weather wise. Last year, NYE brought with it sub-zero temperatures, leaving revelers to run from place to place. So when this year, it is 30 degrees instead of -10, it feels almost balmy. We head to the Colorado Convention Center with smiles on our faces, eager to greet the New Year by dancing two glorious, EDM-filled nights away. Walking into Decadence this year is a treat – giant white jellyfish hang from the ceiling, leading attendees from one stage to another, making

Since his early 20s, Ruben has been selflessly producing and engineering music for a variety of other bands, helping them gain notoriety in the local San Diego music scene. But now, in his late 40s, Ruben is finally embarking on a new type of project. His own. This is Chill The Giant. Chill The Giant In 2015,

Colorado’s Skylab celebrated its 21st birthday in style with a two-night party that featured names like Martin Garrix, Krewella, Laidback Luke and Borgore. The event, held for the first time at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, was a space-themed wonderland – think giant inflatable planets and satellites. Despite being held in a new venue and with the unfortunate news that much anticipated up and coming DJ Ruby Rose had to cancel last minute, Skylab still went off with a bang. My Favorite Set: Laidback Luke – I spoke to
Read MoreSince hearing the single “I Won’t Let You Walk Away” feat. Madison Beer this past Winter, I’ve been a huge supporter of DJ duo Mako. I saw part of their set at EDC, but had to miss a lot of it due to an unfortunate overlap with Avicii. So, when I heard that they were going to be at Global Dance Festival at Red Rocks, I knew I had to go. A week or so before, I, or should I say, my rave alter-ego “Afrocat,” tweeted: “Who is everyone most

In the spirit of full disclosure, I went to day 1 of Decadence last year and I was sure I wouldn’t go again. The DJs that played were major names, but the Colorado Convention Center is not an ideal music venue. I found that the sound was often too low (poor Nervo couldn’t get the crowd into their set to save their lives) and the overall feel of the space was more business than music. But after attending this year’s event, all those feelings have changed. Decadence 2014 promised to

It’s 11:15 p.m., and Jordy is supposed to start his set at Beta Nightclub at 12:30. Still, he has agreed to chat with me, despite the hour and freezing Colorado weather. Jordy is only 21 years old, but he has achieved things DJs double his age can only dream of- he made his debut at Ultra last year when Hardwell invited him on stage to play their new song “Never

If you’re anything like me, it’s a time for merriment, poor eating habits, a chance to see David Beckham running half-naked, and, best of all, a kickass halftime performance. Bruno Mars was the league’s pick for 2014 and yet, regardless of the artist’s proven talent and popularity, many critics questioned whether the fresh young performer was ready to live up to the likes of last year’s show brought to us by the amazing Queen Beyonce. After delivering a killer performance complete with drum solos, heartfelt messages from

The world of electronic dance music (EDM) was good to me in 2013. I saw 20 plus DJs in three different states and at a plethora of venues. At Coachella, I reveled in the glory that is the new Sahara Tent where I saw soon-to-be named “No. 1 DJ in the world,” Hardwell. In July, I had my first Deadmau5 experience at the MGM’s new super club, Hakkasan, and I closed 2013 by seeing the ruler of EDM himself, Tiesto. All that being said, few of my 2013 DJ experiences
