Being the movie junkie that I am, I always find the Oscars particularly enjoyable, so much so that I am able to overcome the smug ass-kissing film and television stars cannot help roll around in these days. (Did anyone do a count on how many times Lorne Michaels was name-dropped at the SNL 40th Anniversary celebration last weekend?) Regardless, there has been plenty of buzz around this year’s Academy Awards presentation, which will undoubtedly yield some fairly predictable elements. 1. NPH greatness Let’s face it, Ellen Degeneres’ hosting gig was

Let’s be clear about one thing: Interstellar is a really good movie. I’ve heard the commentary from the naysayers out there, but from the laymen’s perspective, this is definitely a worthwhile watch. However, I have also noticed that there are some pretty strong sentiments towards certain qualities of this movie that are worth taking a look at, especially if you are still on the fence about checking this one out. The more “agrees” you side with, the more you should definitely go see Interstellar. 1. Christopher Nolan is

Working in production takes a toll on a human being. Long hours can mean debilitating health as well as a lack of social life (and forget dating altogether). I’ve come to know these pratfalls all too well during my stint as a freelance production sound mixer, yet the most ironic things I’ve missed out the most on are current film and television releases. You’d think that being as entrenched as I am in the creation of new content (be sure to check out the UnderArmour commercial I recorded sound for

Most men wore black bow ties; however, it was nice to some switch up the norm. Here are my favorite looks from the red carpet: Leonardo DiCaprio may not have won an Oscar but he definitely won best dressed in his classic Armani tuxedo. From his hair, goatee, to his shoes he looked extremely sexy. Michael B. Jordan wore an staggering Givenchy tux
Read MoreWhen I was a kid, my mom always knew to save the newspaper the day after the Academy Awards. It was my prized possession; pieces of paper documenting all of the happenings of the night before—opinions on the dresses, the dates, the scandals, the letdowns, the surprises, the not-so-surprises. There was always a splash of judgment across the media, claiming what went wrong that year. But for me, it was the memory of who stood there on stage, in front of their peers expressing sheer gratitude of acknowledgement. Year after
Read MoreIn somewhat of an upset, after J Law took home the Golden Globe in January, “12 Years a Slave” star Lupita Nyong’o won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar at last night’s ceremony. Before Christoph Waltz called her name, many of us hadn’t heard of Miss Lupita, daughter of Mexico City and graduate of the Yale School of Drama, but since she took the stage we can’t wait to see what she does next. Check out her show-stopping acceptance speech here: Not since Jennifer Lawrence tripped on her way to the

You’ve finished Breaking Bad, binged on House of Cards, and are looking for a new show to tide you over until Game of Thrones comes back. Well, look no further, because HBO’s True Detective is one of the most riveting shows to grace the airwaves. Set primarily in 1995, the show is a gritty take on the pulp neo-noir genre twisted with elements of supernatural horror, and trades the urban decay of New York or Los Angeles, for an eerie look at the backwater depravity of 1995 Louisiana. The show

It seems that weighed against reality, meeting the “right” guy would be pretty hard for any girl. Here’s why: To fit the standard, a guy must meet the following criteria: a. He should be stable, hard-working and well-paid. b. He should be spontaneous. c. He must make
Read MoreVelvet suits are by no means a new trend. Men have been wearing them for decades; after all, they exude true sex appeal. In the past few weeks, we have seen a resurgence of celebrities sporting them: from Matthew McConaughey at the Golden Globes to Macklemore, LL Cool J, and Robin Thicke at the Grammys. Velvet suits create an urban, yet classy, style for real luxury men. They can be traced back to the trend of the “Dandy” man and can be a versatile staple in any man’s closet. In

If you’re like the rest of the Internet, you raised your fists in protest when the Golden Globe Nominations were announced a couple weeks ago. While award’s season backlash is nothing new, what makes this round of indignation so special is its direction at an entire category of the awards, notably Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. As they stand, the nominees include such hilarious, feel-good flicks as Her, Inside Llewyn Davis, Nebraska, The Wolf of Wall Street, and American_Hustle American Hustle. See any particularly funny movies on that list? Neither
