I work at a job that requires some customer service, most of which is done over the phone. Being a 22-year-old, I already have a strong aversion to the phone. Why would I want to actually talk to another human when I could just go on my computer and not have to interact with anyone? #ShitIDontUnderstand So yeah I don’t love answering the phone from the get-go, mostly because it makes me extremely anxious. What can I say, my mom always told me not to talk to strangers. But someRead More
The other day at my nerdy retail job, I was once again reminded that I don’t get paid enough when a middle-aged stranger (as he was purchasing Playboy and a bar of Godiva chocolate) licked his lips and said, “You should call me.  I could look into those big, beautiful eyes all night.  Are you Persian?”  Good lord. It’s no secret that my workplace breeds the occasional overly-flirtatious man.  Perhaps it’s some sort of power-trip that guys need to ride in order to feel masculine, or maybe it’s because we sell TheRead More
T-minus negative two days ‘til the start of the greatest sporting event in the entire universe! An estimated 10 million viewers in the U.S. alone made the opening matches of the tournament among the largest-watched spectacles across the globe. And sadly, these numbers paled in comparison to Game 1 of the NBA Finals… Priorities, America. I am of course referring to the World Cup. Maybe you’ve heard of it. I will go ahead and assume the majority of the viewership for the NBA Finals is coming from everyone outside MiamiRead More
I could call it “situation”, but really it’s a debacle.  A horrible and confusing predicament that we have been put in as a nation.  The World Cup has begun, and there has already been a lot of drama around upsets, bad calls, dramatic finishes, and the like.  The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) has almost completely been thrown to the side and discredited as one that has zero chance of making it past their group play into the elimination stages.  As we officially begin to wade into the CupRead More
I asked for the moon and you came back with the galaxy. When one boy said he didn’t love me anymore, you said you would never stop. You taught me that donuts are the only way to start a Saturday morning (or any morning) and that cigars can be smoked in times of celebration or sorrow. And when Mommy parted this world too soon, you stepped in to take over as Mr. Mom. I view the world with hope in my eyes and faith in my heart because of you,Read More
Every year, Forbes magazine creates a list of the 30 most influential people under the age of 30. They include a variety of categories, from science and business, to entertainment, sports, and art. On the list are common household names such as Lena Dunham (27, ugh), David Karp (27), and Maria Sharapova (26). There are also names we may not recognise, but people who’ve created, or who control, globally influential, multi-million dollar entities we inevitably do. See the full list here. It seems as if all these people are onRead More
Miss USA has come and gone, and the internet remains full of criticism and confusion about the world of pageantry. It’s forever tainted by Honey Boo Boo and Miss Teen South Carolina ’07. Women either love it or they hate it. Men either love it or they. . .love it. Most people don’t understand what draws women to compete. And I’m just over here eating ice cream and looking back on my glory days. No matter how you feel about the pageants, I promise they’ve got a lot to offer–MoreRead More
As a fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder, and a fan of sports in general, I would like to begin this letter with a heartfelt and resounding thank you to one of the most influential players to have been a part of the still-young Thunder franchise.  Derek Fisher, even though you were only a part of the program for a few years, your leadership and poise have helped to bring the program through some tough situations and have worked wonders for a club that needed those elements to bring itRead More
Spoiler Alert: This article contains plot details of Orange is the New Black seasons 1 and 2.   This past Friday, the entire second season of the critically acclaimed show, Orange is the New Black, was released on Netflix. In some of cases, you binged all thirteen episodes in a long, but enticing thirteen hour marathon. However, this season includes more astute, yet subtle connections. I decided to watch the season over the course of a week, and as I sigh in astonishment as Rosa races the van off the screen,Read More
Record 5: Venice, California, Sunday July 5th, 2009. Day. So like Reed and I got to the Whaler a few hours (yeah, fucking hours) before his mom even called us. She texted me earlier, which seems weird, but she always texts me when Reed doesn’t answer his phone or leaves it on silent. Her text said: TELL MY SON TO TEXT ME K? So I told Reed to text her a few hours later when he woke up. It was around 1:35 in the afternoon. I remember because IRead More
  1. Watching your coffee pot fill up in the morning is so beautiful it moves you to tears (it’s the miracle of life) 2. You wouldn’t wish decaf on your worst enemy. 3. There is a special place in hell for people who try and lecture you on “the dangers of caffeine.” 4. You want to punch anyone who drinks lattes, caramel macchiatos, or anything of that sort and has the AUDACITY to call it coffee. 5. You will always sacrifice a couple extra minutes of sleep to makeRead More
The San Antonio Spurs are giving Miami a reality check this year. They ran away with game 3 of the NBA Finals and did it again in game 4 to go up 3-1 heading back to San Antonio. After back-to-back NBA championships, it appears the Big 3 are human after all. Miami, with the combination of LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh, won 2 straight titles. A win this year would make it a 3-peat, but it seems out of reach. The Spurs “big 3” …or 4 or 5Read More
