The Next Green States

21 states and the District of Columbia have either decriminalized marijuana or legalized its medicinal use. Who’s next? Quinnipiac University released a study that found 88% of Floridians are in favor of medical marijuana so long as it is used in accordance with a doctor. Florida will vote on an amendment, Florida’s Question 2, this coming November. The vote requires 60% to pass. In Florida, cannabis possession is slightly decriminalized but the sale, transportation, or cultivation of the drug remain illegal. If Florida votes to legalize medical marijuana, look for them to continueRead More

Monica Lewinsky is BACK!

After 10 long years of silence, Monica Lewinsky is BACK and discussing in Vanity Fair magazine how she deeply regrets her fling with President Clinton. She claims she was taken advantage of and preyed on. However, she does still stand by her original words that it was a consensual relationship.  Lewinsky says she will be focusing her life on helping victims of harassment and humiliation. Oh Monica. That’s great you want to help out others but I love that you’re playing the victim after all these years. You knew exactlyRead More
It’s Raining Fish in Sri Lanka! Yes that’s correct. And I’m not talking about cats and dogs here, I really mean fish. On Monday, during a rainstorm in Sri Lanka, villagers were surprised to have over 50kg of fish come down as well. It is believed the fish were pulled from a nearby river. This is not the first time the country has seen fish rain. Early in 2012 a nearby village witnessed prawns fall from the sky. So I guess this is kinda cool. Talk about your endless sushiRead More
EnterViews is Hilary’s weekly series with emerging artists via various forms of digital communication.   You might have noticed Jessie Kahnweiler around the internet or even on the streets of LA. Or maybe you recognize this title—I Made a Short Film About My Rape and Now I Can’t Get Laid. Last January in Park City I met Jessie in the offices of the Treasure Mountain Inn after having just seen her film and feeling overwhelmed by the collision of comedy and drama. She wore a fur coat while passing out red stickersRead More
The internet is a wondrous place. You can literally find anything. Life as a young person is different from the life of any one else and I think these gifs establish that pretty clearly.   1. When you have to wake up before 10 am.   2. When you go to Starbucks at 10pm and it’s closed.   3. When you buy a new outfit from H&M and wear it out for the first time.   4. Pretty much.   5. After a long and tiring of day of doing nothing…butRead More
We have movies called “Friends With Benefits,” “No Strings Attached,” “Sex Drive,” etc., but why? These songs on the radio are all about sex and blowing and sucking and licking. Don’t get me wrong, I am a pleasure seeker myself. As humans, that is something normal for us. What isn’t normal, to me, is how much it is broadcasted. I like sex just as much as the next person, but what happened to being in a committed relationship where sex actually meant something? Call me old fashioned or call meRead More

22 Reasons You’re Not Ready To Be 23

There’s no way Taylor Swift’s song doesn’t apply to you anymore. I don’t know about you, but I’m not feeling 23. Student loans are due, so you decided to opt for the Income Based Payment system. Your income is $0. You can’t be 23. You still go back to your college town twice a month because it was the greatest place of your life and you’re texting and driving along the way, you don’t know why you’re doing it, but you’re doing it AND YOU CAN’T BE 23 YET. ThenRead More
I’m pretty lucky when it comes to dealing with anxiety, because anxiety and I have a fairly straightforward relationship. Whenever I think I’m doing marginally okay, or feeling particularly productive, anxiety pops into my brain and quickly takes the wheel. It doesn’t matter how much I have achieved in my short 24 years of existence, anxiety has this trick that makes those achievements seem insignificant—it likes to remind me that I’m only one of approximately 6 billion humans on a planet floating in a vacuum of infinite space as weRead More

Bizarre Ways to Celebrate May

If someone asked you what your favorite month was, you wouldn’t say May.   You just wouldn’t.  Unless you were born in May and are one of those people who thinks your birthday is bigger than Jesus’s, chances are your favorite time of year is around the winter holidays.  Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s…they’re great.  But then what?  Valentine’s Day stretches the holiday season out a little bit for some people but not everyone.  However, it is a common misconception that in between Winter and Summer is a holiday-void lull.  Did you knowRead More

Dead Cats Found Hanging From Trees in NYC About 25 cats were found hanging from some trees in a suburb of New York, many had been dead for the past year. Many of the cats were found with their heads smashed in, in a very disturbing and violent display. Investigators do not have any leads yet as the animals’ times of death vary from years to 3 days. I know this is a pretty morbid WTF story but it’s pretty strange. Someone must really not like cats. I’m not sureRead More

5 Cultural Icons that are Vastly Overrated

Sorry everyone, it’s time to get out your Butthurt Shields, cause what I’m about to write might hurt a little bit. Here are five idolized cultural icons that really were not that great. #1 – Jim Morrison Yeah yeah I know. The Doors made some decent music. But letsbehonest – that was in spite of Jim Morrison, not because of Jim Morrison. Hell, in interviews his former bandmates have even said that his drug use and incoherent lyrics hurt their artistic visions at times. I mean, it was probably mostlyRead More

Seven Selfies that Need to Stop

Don’t get me wrong; I’m a supporter of the modern day selfie. In fact, I’m a founding member of the selfie sisterhood, dating all the way back to disposable cameras and MySpace mirror shots. See: Mom and me, age 13. Dog and me, age 16. Whatever I’m wearing and me, age 17. I’m all for the self-love and self-empowerment that comes with sharing one’s face (hair, makeup and shoe choice) on social media. Seriously. Let your multi-colored hair down and (for those out of high school) show off that Atlantic City dress youRead More
In a recent article by The Huffington Post, I came across Victoria Siemer‘s “Human Error” series. The artist’s polaroids perfectly capture love and life in the digital era in which we live. I don’t know about you, but the emotional struggles us Millennials go through each day continue to increase in shades of grey and I don’t see any black and whites in our horizon. Not only do we deal with uncertainty, the hook-up culture, feelings, and heartbreak, but when things go bad we can’t simply take that person out of our lives.Read More

What’s Next for Social Media?

One thing is for sure: social media is here to stay.  We’ve become so engrossed in what’s happening in the lives of people that we kind of know – as well as that one friend from high school that you still talk to, and your family that now stalks your profile tirelessly – that if all social media shut down tomorrow, people would riot.  Mark Zuckerburg’s house would be in flames and that dude that you automatically follow when you create a twitter account would mysteriously disappear.  The first socialRead More
Well, Class of 2014, it’s that time. Only a few more weeks and you’ll be taking selfies in your cap and gown, preparing for post-grad madness, and ignoring all of the shitty speakers at your college graduation. You’ve probably already reached the point at which all of the adults in your life transform into total a-holes, repeatedly asking you about your future plans (Who f*cking knows. You’re graduating–Isn’t that good enough?!) and I’m sure you’ve already read 10 different lists suggesting 100s of things you need to do in orderRead More
